Thailand requires commercial banks to transfer accounts that have been dormant for 10 years to the Bank of Thailand (BOT). The Financial Institutions Business Act B.E. 2551 (2008) and BOT regulations govern this process. While Thailand does not have a single public search portal, the BOT oversees the process and Thai banks have established procedures for dormant account enquiries.

Given Thailand's significant expatriate population — both Thais living abroad and foreigners who worked in Thailand — dormant accounts are common. Thai banks are generally helpful in processing dormant account enquiries from both residents and non-residents.

How to Search Thai Dormant Accounts

Thai National ID and Passport

Thai bank accounts are linked to the Thai National ID card (บัตรประชาชน) — a 13-digit number for Thai citizens. For foreign nationals who held accounts in Thailand, the passport number used at account opening is the primary identifier.

For estate claims involving deceased Thai account holders, a Will or court inheritance order (คำพิพากษาของศาล) and a death certificate are required. Thai probate proceedings are handled by the civil courts. For cross-border estates, the Thai consulate in your country can assist with the initial documentation requirements.
