Unclaimed Money in Czech Republic
The Czech Republic does not have a central unclaimed money portal, but Czech banks are regulated by the Czech National Bank (Česká národní banka / CNB) and required to maintain dormant accounts. The Czech Banking Act (Zákon o bankách) establishes obligations for banks to attempt contact with inactive account holders.
The Czech Republic has a significant amount of unclaimed assets tied to the privatisation process of the 1990s, including unclaimed investment vouchers (kupony) from the voucher privatisation programme. These may have converted to shares in Czech companies that remain unclaimed.
How to Search Czech Dormant Accounts
Česká spořitelna
Part of the Erste Group. The largest Czech bank by retail deposits. Traces back to the state savings bank era. Contact via csas.cz.
ČSOB & KB
Československá obchodní banka (ČSOB, owned by KBC) and Komerční banka (KB, owned by Société Générale) are the other major banks. Both accept dormant account enquiries.
Voucher Privatisation
Millions of Czechs received investment vouchers in 1992–1994. Many were never cashed. The Czech Securities Depository (CDCP) at cdcp.cz can help trace unclaimed securities.
Czech Insurance
Life insurance held by Česká pojišťovna, Kooperativa, or Allianz Czech. Contact the Czech Insurance Association (ČAP) at cap.cz for unclaimed insurance guidance.
Czech Identification
Czech citizens are identified by their rodné číslo (birth number) — a 9 or 10-digit identifier that functions as a national ID number. All Czech bank accounts are linked to the account holder's rodné číslo, making it the most efficient search tool.
For deceased estates, a usnesení o dědictví (court inheritance decision) from the notary acting as estate commissioner is required. Czech probate is handled by notaries appointed by the district court.
