Unclaimed Money in Malaysia

Malaysia has one of the most user-friendly unclaimed money systems in Asia. The Accountant General's Department (JANM) operates the eGUMIS portal at egumis.anm.gov.my, which consolidates unclaimed financial assets from banks, insurance companies, and other regulated financial institutions.

Under the Unclaimed Moneys Act 1965 (UMA), money that has been dormant for 7 years must be surrendered to the Registrar of Unclaimed Moneys (who is the Secretary General of the Treasury). As of 2025, over RM 13.3 billion in unclaimed financial assets has been surrendered, with more added each year.

Claiming via eGUMIS

To claim via eGUMIS, you will need: your MyKad (Malaysian National ID) number, a MyKad or passport for identity verification, and (for insurance claims) supporting policy documents. Claims can be submitted online with digital copies of documents.

For deceased estates, the legal representative (executor or administrator) can claim using a Grant of Probate or Letter of Administration from the Malaysian courts, along with the MyKad of the deceased and their death certificate. Claims are typically processed within 30 days.
